Before You Begin
Replacing a bathroom faucet is a manageable DIY project that can refresh the look of your sink. Make sure your new faucet matches the number of mounting holes in your sink before you start.
Tools and Materials
- New faucet and supply lines
- Adjustable wrench and basin wrench
- Plumber's tape and plumber's putty
- A bucket and a towel
Step 1: Turn Off the Water
Close the shutoff valves under the sink and open the faucet to relieve pressure. Place a bucket below to catch any water in the lines.
Step 2: Disconnect the Old Faucet
Use a basin wrench to loosen the supply lines and mounting nuts. Once everything is free, lift the old faucet out and clean the sink surface.
Step 3: Install the New Faucet
Set the new faucet into the mounting holes, following the manufacturer's instructions. Secure it from below with the provided nuts and apply plumber's putty if recommended.
Step 4: Connect the Supply Lines
Attach the hot and cold supply lines, wrapping the threads with plumber's tape for a tight seal. Tighten the connections, but avoid overtightening.
Step 5: Turn On the Water and Test
Open the shutoff valves slowly and run the faucet. Check all connections for leaks and tighten as needed. Once everything is dry, your new faucet is ready to use.
