Why Replace Your Showerhead?
A new showerhead can improve water pressure, reduce water usage, and instantly modernize your bathroom. Old showerheads often clog with mineral deposits that weaken the spray.
Tools and Materials
- A new showerhead
- Plumber's tape (Teflon tape)
- An adjustable wrench or pliers
- A soft cloth to protect the finish
Step 1: Remove the Old Showerhead
Turn the old showerhead counterclockwise by hand. If it's stuck, wrap a cloth around the connection and use a wrench to loosen it without scratching the finish.
Step 2: Clean the Shower Arm Threads
Wipe the threads of the shower arm clean and remove any old plumber's tape or debris. A clean surface ensures a tight, leak-free seal.
Step 3: Apply Plumber's Tape
Wrap plumber's tape clockwise around the threads two or three times. This helps create a watertight seal and prevents drips at the connection.
Step 4: Install the New Showerhead
Thread the new showerhead onto the shower arm by hand, turning clockwise. Tighten gently with a wrench wrapped in cloth, being careful not to overtighten.
Step 5: Test for Leaks
Turn on the water and check the connection. If you notice any dripping, tighten slightly or add more plumber's tape until the seal is secure.
